With approximately $180K raised in the past 4 years, The Karen Louisa has financially kick started and made possible some invaluable advanced breast cancer research and education projects. In fact – because of our funding two of our main research projects were able to actually commence their projects & prove how critical their work was. Thus, both becoming successful benefactors of major funding grants enabling them to carry on their essential work.

The Karen Louisa Foundation granted $20k to Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition (BCAC) to help raise awareness on advanced breast cancer. This included the creation of video content that documented experiences of patients’, an online awareness campaign through their website, advocacy of better access to medication and more.

The Karen Louisa Foundation committed $47K to support Dr. Parry Guilford & his team at the Centre of Translational Cancer research at Otago University in a seed project which researched circulating tumour DNA or ctDNA in the area of metastatic (advanced) breast cancer.
