Karen Louisa Foundation

The Karen Louisa Foundation was established to raise funds for advanced breast cancer research & treatments for advanced breast cancer patients in New Zealand.

Established in 2016 after Karen’s death in April 2015, it has raised approximately $180K.  The Foundation has financially supported some amazing projects over the years, in both the research, awareness/education and advocacy areas.  It is currently working on confirming a significant partnership with another well known cancer organisation for the end of 2020.

To ensure this level of financial support can continue The Whistling Sisters brewery was created as a lasting long term way Karen’s family could continue tangibly contributing to these areas.
The brewery donates a portion of its profits to the Foundation and dually its also an ideal space for fundraising events.  The other Scott family establishments – Leuven Belgian Beer Cafe, Avida and The Featherston are all also located in Wellington and have hosted many fundraising events over the years and run regular bespoke specials on their menus which benefit the Foundation. For example, The Double your Mussels promotion that Leuven Belgian Beer Cafe runs has raised over $20K for the Foundation.

"We're determined as a family to see if we can effect change for other women."

The Scott family believe passionately in using what you have to give back and pay forward.

“Our promise as a family was to continue doing something in Karen’s name and not just let it drop. We needed a strong business model to be able to support ongoing research. This is just very much the start of that. After we’ve gone, this will still continue in Karen’s name.”
-Karen’s father, Russel Scott
